Staying at the Lodge
Frequently Asked Questions

All our Members are familiar with staying at the Lodge, it's become a home-from-home for many of us.  Whether it's nearly full, or you're on your own, here are some hints and tips to making the most of your stay.

HOW DO I BOOK A STAY AT THE LODGE? Registered Club Members should visit the Lodge Bookings page under the Member's Resources menu above. First, call the Lodge Telephone Hotline, then complete the reservation form and send to the Reservations Chairperson with a check for your stay (details on booking page). Be sure to include names for your party (guests, children etc.) and calculate the rate for each person (up-to-date prices are on the Lodge Booking page).

WHAT IF I’M THE FIRST TO ARRIVE / LAST TO LEAVE? Normally the Lodge will be locked when unattended, the code for the door can be obtained by calling the hotline. If you’re the first person to arrive or are staying alone, you’ll need to switch on the water by the door (and set the heating to ‘occupied’ in the winter. If you’re likely to be alone, then keep the front door locked, otherwise turn the flap on the latch to stop the door locking for others. Instructions for closing-up the Lodge are posted by the door if you’re the last to leave, but it’s important to ensure fires in the stove/fireplace are extinguished and doors/windows are locked.

WHERE SHOULD I PARK? Our parking area can get busy, and it’s important not to park beneath the eaves of the Lodge in winter, to avoid damage from falling snow/ice. Park courteously, but try not to leave large gaps in order to maximize the space available. If you won’t be using your car for the duration of your stay, it can be double parked. Extra space is available in the parking lot off Rt 17.

WHERE CAN I LEAVE MY SKIS/BOOTS? There’s space for everyone’s boots in the Boot Room opposite the front door and the boot heater is on a timer to let them dry comfortably. Skis should not be brought into the Lodge, unless they’re being waxed/adjusted on the tuning table in the kitchen. Leave them neatly outside the front door, or in your car for extra security. Please don’t leave anything (skis, boots, coolers etc.) by the steps up from the front door. This is a fire exit and must be kept clear.

HOW SHOULD I USE THE LIVING ROOM? The living room is a common area, so use it responsibly. There may be people reading quietly but feel free to chat, play games and have an after-dinner drink (although food should remain downstairs in the kitchen/dining area). Feel free to light the fire if it’s cold – but don’t pile it up with logs and then go to bed. Sometimes it’s hard to stay awake after a busy day on the slopes, but remember - the Living Room isn’t for sleeping.

WHICH ROOM WILL I SLEEP IN? At busy periods, rooms are allocated and you may be asked to share with others of the same gender. Room allocations are posted in advance on the bedlist by the Person-in-Charge (PiC). This will be on the noticeboard near the front door. Rooms should be used for sleeping only, please don’t eat, smoke or watch movies and be considerate of others, particularly if you’re arriving late. Cleaning materials should always be available beneath your sink, so don’t forget to clean the sink & bathroom before you leave.

SHOULD I BRING BEDDING? Bedrooms have mattresses and pillows, in clean covers. You should bring twin-bed sheets (or King if two bunks are slid together). There are blankets and comforters, but you're welcome to bring your own if you prefer. Don't forget towels and maybe a bathmat.

WHAT CHORES AM I EXPECTED TO DO AND WHY? The Lodge is not a hotel and we don’t employ cleaning staff, we all have a responsibility to keep the Lodge clean. In addition to cleaning your room, you might be asked to vacuum common areas or clear snow, although you shouldn’t be given something you can’t do. Allocations and a list of chores will be posted next to your room on the bedlist. If you’re leaving for the day and not returning, make sure to leave time to clean your room and complete any chores before you leave. If you're staying alone over the summer, pick a chore and leave the Lodge cleaner than you found it.

IS THERE A WASHER/DRYER I CAN USE? We don’t have a washer at the Lodge, but there is a coin-operated dryer in Room 11 ($0.75 quarters only).

CAN I BRING MY PET DOG/CAT/BIRD ETC? We do not allow animals to stay at the lodge. Some people leave them at nearby kennels for their stay.

IS THERE A PLACE WHERE I CAN SMOKE? We do not allow smoking in the building. You may smoke on the deck at the rear or if you want to smoke outside, please stand away from the front door. Please keep the area tidy and discard trash responsibly.

WHERE SHOULD I STORE MY FOOD IN THE KITCHEN? Shelf stable foods should be kept on the tall shelf unit in the back corner of the dining area (use the box/bag you brought your things in). There are plastic bins on the top shelf for use in the ‘Members’ Refrigerator’ (facing the dining area). Beer/drinks take-up valuable space in the refrigerator, these can be left in your car or in a cooler – it’ll be just as cold as in the ‘fridge. The ‘Members’ Refrigerator’ might not be switched on if the Lodge isn’t full, in which case you can use the ‘Cook’s Fridge’ in the back part of the kitchen. This shouldn’t be used at busy times if a cook is employed to make meals. Please remove any of your unused food from the refrigerators upon leaving – don’t be tempted to leave milk or butter for ‘others’ to use (unless you’ve agreed it with them beforehand). There’s a cupboard above the microwave where you can leave surplus (unopened) shelf stable food (cans or sealed packets) for Members’ use if you don’t want to take it home.

HOW SHOULD I USE THE KITCHEN SANITIZER? The sanitizer isn’t a dishwasher. Use it to ‘sanitize’ items after they’ve been handwashed. It takes a few cycles to achieve operating temperature, so it’s best reserved for times when the Lodge is busy. Check the instructions posted above it.

HOW SHOULD I MAKE COFFEE? If you’re making a small amount of coffee just for yourself/another, use the ‘Mr Coffee’ filter machine. Instructions on making a full pot (10 cups) in the Bunn machine are pasted on the wall behind it. Don’t forget to put 2-3 carafes through the heater to get it up to temperature first.

WHAT IF I HAVE AN EMERGENCY There’s a First Aid kit in the Boot Room, which should be kept stocked. The defibrillator outside the Boot Room can be used without experience – follow the instructions. Medical and other emergency services (addresses & phone numbers) are listed on the noticeboard in the lobby. Please let the Person in Charge (PiC) know (or leave them a message) if you need assistance. Their details will be on the noticeboard near the front door.
